The Tatlin Vase designed by Ivar Ålenius Björk re-emerges! Ivar Ålenius Björk (1905 - 1978) worked as a sculptor, mostly known for bust portraits. His public ornaments can be seen in many Swedish towns. The Lily candlestick, also designed by Ivar, is a true design classic that is featured in many international design magazines to this day. The Tatlin vase is yet another iconic design from Ivar’s hand. Skultuna has now agreed with the relatives of Ivar Ålenius Björk to take up the production of the vase again and we at The Glass House Design Store are delighted to feature it. Vaguely reminiscent of Philip Johnson’s Lincoln Kirsten Monument on the Glass House property!

British designerSimon Hasan creates these boiled leather water tight vases using a medieval armormaking technique from the 15^th century called Cuir Bouilli. Vegetable tanned leather isboiled and dried to create objects of compelling rigidity and beauty. Thebottle vases are lined with black polyurethane resin, ensuring water tightnessfor cut flowers.

Due to the nature of the process, all colors and dimensions of bottles and openings are approximate and tonal variations in color are to be expected. Vegetable tanned leather will patinate with age and use.
